Why Live in Kappara?
The parish church is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. In the southern region of the locality, one finds an industrial estate which employs some 1900 people. These factories and the numerous shops and supermarkets in San Gwann make this township one of the biggest and most important commercial outlets on the island. Suffice it to say that on the main road alone there are no less than 80 shops. Its central location, combined with its beautiful villa areas and terraced houses have made it popular with the middle class population of the island.
There are a few archaeological remains in the area, suggesting that Kappara along with San Ġwann has an ancient history. There are a pair of cart ruts found near the area of Sant Andrija, whose dating is not definite, bus is assumed to be pre-Punic times, probably carved out during the Bronze Age period from 2300-1000 BC. Their function is also not established but they are usually presumed to be a transport facility. These cart ruts suggest that there was a pre-historic agricultural community living in San Gwann, who farmed the fertile valleys of Wied Ghomor, Wied il-Ballut and Wied Ghollieqa.
